Foal Training Explained: The First Two Years
Mare owners, if you'd like to get your colt or filly started out with a proper foundation, I would suggest the investment of $5.99 in my foal-training course.

An excerpt from "Your Foal: Essential Training for the Young Horse":
There's also stuff that doesn't touch your horse, things like a fluttering flag, a rattling garbage can, running deer or you bumping your riding helmet against a low-hanging tree branch. This group of scary objects includes "stuff you wouldn't think would scare a horse," "stuff you'll run across once per lifetime" and "stuff you only find in the arena/friend's barn/trail." Basically, it's everything you never thought to rub (or couldn't rub) against your horse till he grows bored. Dealing with these things involves teaching the horse how to handle his fear as opposed to dulling him to something as described above with sacking out. Schooling the horse to deal with items in this group requires something John has coined "Spook in Place," which is beyond the scope of this book. It's something you may want to delve into later, perhaps when you begin round penning and breaking your colt to the saddle. (Note: I cover Spook in Place in Day 3 of my downloadable book "Round Pen: First Steps." Find info at Horsemanship101.com/Courses.)
