A word about ears: I'm a firm believer that the horses I'm called to fix that refuse to be bridled or blanketed or pick up their feet would never have become such large dangerous pills had their owners shown consistent yet kind discipline. A good old fashioned zero tolerance policy for crapola would have put an end to such poor behavior years before. With this in mind, I want you to promise yourself right now that you will work with your colt till those ears can be flipped, held, petted and otherwise manhandled without objections from your horse. Head shy horses are not only dangerous – they also label you as somebody who shouldn't own a horse. A green horn. A schlub. Frankly, I'm half-convinced that horses see the ability to avoid having their ears touched as a test: "Is this owner of mine a dufus or what?"
